The History of Cover-Tex
Situated in the heart of East London, Cover-Tex was founded in 1977 by The Brown Family. Using their knowledge and experience of the upholstery market, Cover-Tex quickly became one of the leading wholesalers to the upholstery industry, supplying a broad range of over 1700 fabrics nationwide.
Today the company continues as a family run business with David and the arrival of his daughter Cristina in 1999, who, with her BA (HONS) in textile design, has become the designer and creator of the ‘Cristina Marrone’ brand.
With the introduction of the ‘Cristina Marrone’ collection the Cover-Tex family can now offer a wider and more varied collection of fabrics, encompassing classic, transitional and modern ranges to cover a wide spectrum to meet with the demands of today’s changing markets and fashions.
The different fabrics range from plain and jacquard chenille’s, flat weaves, faux leather and suedes, linen prints, velvets and washable cottons. All of which have been sourced from the finest mills throughout Europe and the world using the finest yarns
Cristina Marrone is the daughter of David and Hazel Brown, the owners and co-founders of Cover-tex. Cristina was an early starter with Cover-Tex, always working in her school holidays for her Father.
Showing a flair for Art and Design, Cristina went to the London College of Printing and Distributive trades where she gained a B-Tec National Diploma in Design Display.
Cristina was then accepted into Central Saint Martins, one of the leading design colleges in the world, where she was fortunate to study alongside some of the best young designers of her generation. Here she passed her foundation year and went on to obtain BA (HONS) in Textile design.
Using the valuable experience and skills picked up at Central Saint Martins, Cristina wanted to make her mark in the Textile industry and so joined the family business.
Noticing that there was a large gap in the market for a certain line of upholstery fabrics together with her father, the Cristina Marrone brand was created, which has now become a recognised name within the industry.
Cristina wanted to provide fabrics with a designer look but without the designer price tag. She understands that when a customer is buying a fabric for their home that they are making an investment and so the fabric must stand the test of time, not only in usage but also in its look.
